In November 2013 my Mum sadly lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. I wanted to do something in her memory and decided that rather than do one challenge I’d take on a whole 12 months of challenges, from this the 30/30 challenge was born. I am taking on 30 different challenges whilst I am 30 years old. These challenges aren’t all physical endurance challenges, some are more light hearted, and some involve giving things up too!
I want to raise awareness of this disease because it is so deadly, the infographic below shows that the 5 year survival rate is just 4%, but pancreatic cancer receives less than 1% of cancer research spending per year, despite being the 5th most common cause of cancer death. A big contributor to these rates is that it is commonly diagnosed too late.
I am also raising fund for Pancreatic Caner UK to support there work, I am hoping to raise £3000 throughout the year. Donations can be made at http://www.justgiving.com/nicks3030challenge.
Finally, I am calling on all my friends and family to come and join me on a challenge and help me raise the awareness of this disease. The more people that are involved the more fun this is, and the more awareness we raise.
